  8. A new release of CommTech PowerSearch for Word for Windows(tm) is
  9. now available. CommTech PowerSearch(tm) is a text-search and
  10. information retrieval word processor add-on that comes in
  11. versions for Word for Windows(tm) and WordPerfect for
  12. Windows(tm). The popular Word for Windows program now provides
  13. the following new capabilities:
  14.  
  15.     * search across entire directories or hard drives
  16.     * collect blocks of text and put them into a report 
  17.     * perform multiple replacements in one pass
  18.  
  19. When it was first offered, CommTech PowerSearch for Word for
  20. Windows broke new ground by providing the ability to perform
  21. complex Boolean (AND, OR, NOT) searches in Word which were
  22. previously impossible. For example, you could, for the first
  23. time, search for multiple keywords simultaneously, automatically
  24. generate broadened searches using a thesaurus and save searches
  25. for later use. The WordPerfect for Windows(tm) version of CommTech
  26. PowerSearch, a similar but distinct program, provided an easy-to-
  27. use, efficient interface for finding files using Boolean
  28. searches.

  30. In response to requests, we added the following features to the
  31. new program, CommTech PowerSearch 4.0 for Word for Windows:
  32.  
  33. CommTech PowerSearch 4.0 can sweep through entire directories or
  34. drives to find files matching your search criteria. This
  35. feature, which until now was available only in stand-alone
  36. software, is now available from right within your word processor.
  37.  
  38. CommTech PowerSearch 4.0 provides a powerful report writing
  39. "agent." With this feature you can scan specified files, find
  40. matches, and copy relevant sentences or paragraphs to a new file.
  41. In addition to sentences and paragraphs, you can define other
  42. units of text, for example articles or chapters, to be included
  43. in a report. You can also stamp each block of text in a report to
  44. indicate the name, location, date and time of the file it comes
  45. from.
  46.  
  47. CommTech PowerSearch 4.0 has Boolean search and replace
  48. capability. This feature allows you to perform multiple
  49. replacements in one pass during a Boolean search.
  50.  
  51. One of the most difficult tasks in performing searches is
  52. including synonyms and related words. For instance, to search for
  53. "fruit," you need to include related keywords, such as "apple,"
  54. "orange" and "pear." CommTech PowerSearch(tm) uses a thesaurus to
  55. suggest related words, saving time and effort and reducing the
  56. risk of missing important information. Similarly, the program
  57. suggests antonyms. This feature lets you eliminate unwanted data
  58. that other search programs force you to look through.

  60. When you specify a word to search for, the program can substitute
  61. this word plus its synonyms. This collection of words with
  62. included in searches incorporating "AND," "OR," "NOT" in the same
  63. way as single words. CommTech PowerSearch also allows you to
  64. specify how close the search terms must be to one another (for
  65. example, within 5 words, or in the same sentence.)

  67. CommTech Webs(tm) can be saved, reused and edited quickly and
  68. easily. Webs can be linked using the Boolean operators "AND,"
  69. "OR," "NOT" to create searches involving combinations of Webs and
  70. individual words. Like Webs, these searches can also be reused.

  72. CommTech PowerSearch(tm) is the tool for organizing the vast
  73. amounts of unstructured information you now need to deal with,
  74. whether this information comes from databases,e-mail, CD-ROMs, or
  75. other sources and whether you are searching for combinations of
  76. words, numbers or both. For searches on specialized topics, you
  77. can use a customized thesaurus from CommTech. Get synonyms of
  78. technical and other specialized terms for more complete and
  79. accurate searches!

  110. CommTech PowerSearch has Boolean search and replace capability.
  111. This feature allows you to perform multiple replacements in one
  112. pass during a Boolean search.

  115. In addition to specifying information you want, you can also give
  116. and eliminate what you don't want.

  119. Forget the rigid conventions of traditional databases with
  120. confusing query languages. Not only does CommTech PowerSearch(tm)
  121. allow you to perform multiple keyword searches in one pass, you
  122. can also easily narrow or broaden the search. Link several Webs(tm)
  123. together. Find all or part of a Web, and automatically filter out
  124. extraneous data. Whatever you need. CommTech PowerSearch(tm) gives
  125. powerful search tools and unearths data that word processors
  126. simply cannot find.
